Two of my sons, #1 and #3, are taking their first tentative steps out of lockdown. A couple of hour train ride from Amsterdam brought them from Amsterdam to the old-town section of Ghent, Belgium. Beautiful, eh? Sigh.
These aren’t my boys’ photos, though they promised to send me some.
Will I ever travel to Europe again? Right now, it doesn’t feel possible, you know?
I’ve never been to Ghent, but it looks quite similar to Bruges, one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.
I am sure we’ll all travel again. Meanwhile, we keep the flame alive.
Bruges is where the boys went after Ghent, and it’s where my dad’s family originates from. Actually the Hoornaert name probably originated there, as well, according to my Belgian relatives. It’s the one place where the name is common.
