As my final musical salute to Halloween, it’s Night on Bald Mountain. This song from Fantasia is as satanic as Disney ever got — and now that the Disney company has gone all corporate, I’m sure they would never think of doing so darkly ‘real’ as this.
What’s your favourite Halloween music?
You’ve hit on my quintessential Halloween music, Ed!
And yeah, this is probably too dark for today’s Disney.
Today’s Disney is so anodyne they don’t deal with real issues anymore, just live action remakes of the classics Walt himself worked on.
Yes, it is dark for Disney of today. Thanks for sharing, Ed.
I hadn’t really thought about it until now, but Disney has gotten so very bland. Too bad.
When I taught elementary general music, I used Peer Gynt and The Sorceror’s Apprentice and Danse Macabre as October listening selections.
Great selections, Andrea. I thought of all three of these, along with Gounod’s Funeral March of a Marionette.
This is one of my favourites for Halloween too – that and Danse Macabre. Thanks so much for the clip!
And thank you for stopping by, Lyn!
